I know it is an overused phrase. But time really does fly. Sometimes I wish I could press “pause.”
Even though we have just barely passed our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary, it is really hard to imagine life any other way now. And yet, at the same time, we both can vividly remember moments (like our Wedding Day) that they seem to be just a few days ago.
As expected, it seems that the questions have shifted. “When are you guys planning to have kids,” or some variation thereof, is a common question posed by curious friends and strangers alike.
We both want children. I think it is all about timing right now.
Can one ever be ready? Prior to getting married, our marriage counselor told us that the only thing that will prepare us for marriage is marriage itself. I speculate that this is the same for children. There is nothing one can do to truly prepare for those tiny bundles of energy.
I’m looking forward to another year with my wife. I’m sure there will be lots of things to experience, see, and do. We just found out we will be able to take a two-week vacation before the academic year ends. We will be spending that time in Indonesia doing a little exploring and re-connecting with family. It’ll also be a time for Allison to meet some of the extended family that could not make it to the wedding. Allison is adjusting to the new position at work. She has recently moved over to the Surgical Oncology clinic where she primarily works with breast cancer patients. I am getting ready to wrap up this Internal Medicine Residency and will be transitioning into a Chief Resident role.
And finally, are kids in the near future? Perhaps. I don’t know. But I do know there are people actively hoping this happens soon.
I love you! Can’t wait for what life will bring next.
