After a couple days in Ambon, we found ourselves back on a plane. This time we were headed to the island of Java. Our destination was a city on on the eastern side of the island named Surabaya. One of my cousins, Nia, lives there as she attends high school. Her parents, who live in Ambon, made the flight with us from Ambon to Surabaya.
Initially we thought we were on a direct flight from Ambon to Surabaya. But we found ourselves stopping over in Sulawesi. We deplaned and coincidentally met a family friend roaming the airport. While we were there, Allison decided that she needed to fuel up on some caffeine. This was followed by a bathroom break. I only share these details to illustrate that we thought we had time. But while the ladies of the party were in the restroom, we started hearing final calls for our plane.
As the ladies returned we rushed toward the gate to make our connecting flight to Surabay. Fortunately we made it. And Allison was finally able to get her caffeine fix after we settled aboard the flight.
In Surabaya we stayed at my aunt’s house. Surabay is Indonesia’s second largest city. It’s a metropolis and feesl congested. Like Jakarta, the shopaholic will find plenty of options with the malls in the city.
In one of the malls, we found a coffee shop. Here we decided to finally try the famous Kopi Luwak. If you have not hearda bout what Kopi Luwak is, go ahead and click the link. Below are a couple pictures from this unique experience.
As I said earlier, there are a plethora of options for mall goers. We later returned to another mall and decided to try some “Black Sakura” frozen yogurt.
After our time in Surabaya, in which we did swing by Malang briefly, we headed to Bali.
But Bali and the rest of the trip will be for the next post.
