It’s been a great getaway.
So far we have repeatedly spoke of how this trip always seeemed so far away. But now we are actually here in Indonesia.
The trip started with a long flight over. All in all, including the 3 hour stopover in Taiwan, it took us almost 24 hours to get from Los Angeles to Jakarta. Allie was quite the sport. As a lover of breakfast and breakfast foods, she had a chance to have noodles for that first meal of the day when we arrived in Taiwan.
Once in Jakarta, we were picked up by my cousin and a close friend of my parents. Their close friend took us over to their mansion and we got together with some of my parents’ college roommates for dinner.
After dinner we went back to the airport for a red-eye flight to Ambon. My mom grew up on Ambon. She still has two sisters and a brother who lives there with their respective families. She also has cousins and aunts who still live on that island.
Allie made sure to try some coffee on Ambon. No surpise there as she is the household coffee lover.
We also made sure to try some of the local fruits like the coconut, mangosteen, and even a piece of fried breadfruit.
After just a couple days in Ambon, we were back on a plane to go to Surabya to meet more family. Of course, we had to stop at the Dunkin’ Donuts in the airport for a caffeine fix. Yeah, these Dunkin’ Donuts are everywhere here.
Very cool you guys
