One thing that we both love doing is traveling. Admittedly, this can be a challenge due to our work schedules. Short weekend trips are do-able depending on the month. Anything lasting longe than a weekend, however takes some coordination.
Usually I am only allowed to take 5 weekdays off at a time. Along with the 5 week days, I will get 2 weekend days at the beginning or the end of my 5 days. In order to receive credit for a month, I can usually only take a week off. One way to get a longer vacation is to request non-call months consecutively.
We managed to do this in May and June. Both are non-call months. I requested the last week of May and the first week of June off. When I finally got this vacation approved, Allie submitted a request to work. She only receives 2 weeks of vacation per year. And the staff are required to submit requests early so as to avoid too many people off at any one time. At the end of January she finally received word that her two weeks would be granted.
We invited my parents along for the trip and they agreed. Now we are in the planning stages. The tickets there have been purchased. We just need to figure out the itinerary for the two weeks.
It’s been almost 10 years since my last trip to Indonesia. I’m sure a lot has changed — cousins have gotten older, marriages occurred, and babies have popped up (or should I say, out). And this will be Allison’s first trip to Indonesia. Naturally she has heard a lot about the place but this will be her first time setting foot on that giant archipelago.
I’m excited. Three months until takeoff. Just three months.
