Our 4th of July planning was very fluid. Initially we had talked about using our Universal Studios pass and going there for a few hours. Last year we stopped by Disneyland for the 4th of July. It was lots of fun. But our annual passes expired and that wasn’t an option. A few weeks ago, we used our employee discounts to get a 9-month Universal Studios pass for only $124. And being used to the prices at Disneyland, that felt like such a steal. Also, the California Neighbor Pass at Universal Studios going for $124 means that it is selling for less than the price of a non-discounted, single-day ticket. However, we soon discovered the park was expected to be pretty packed on that day and no one was really in the mood to deal with throngs of people in a theme park.
Eventually we settled on a family hike at Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. In addition to the three of us, my parents, sister, and brother-in-law also joined us. My sister and her husband brought their two dogs. It’s a great hike for larger dogs. I saw a few smaller dogs on the trail and there were definitely parts where they needed to be picked up and carried due to the terrain.
Overall the hike was not too strenuous. Some hills and rocks to climb over. The hardest part was that we had Faith in a hiking backpack. Allie took her on the hike out to the waterfall and I took her on the way back to the car.
She did better than expected considering this was only her second time in that carrier. The first one was probably a year or more ago and she didn’t remember it. But after much coaxing, Faith agreed to sit inside.
At the waterfall, we let Faith explore and get in the water. And what kid doesn’t like that?
Apparently the day was tiring, even for someone who didn’t have to walk the entire way to or from the waterfall. Because by the time I had reached the car, Faith was knocked out.
