It’s been a blast watching Faith grow and how her thinking has evolved. Of course, she’s just a 4-year-old but the conversations are starting to become quite entertaining. We started off playing some simple board games last year. This year we tried a brand-new game with her: Ticket To Ride.
We recently got a hold of the Ticket To Ride: First Journey. It is supposed to be suitable for ages 6 and up. We didn’t expect her to be up and running with this game. We expected that we would have to help her through and walker her through each move. What we did not anticipate was how much fun it would be for us as adults. After playing this version a few times, we went out and bought the regular version of the game!

First Journey follows the same basic principles as the “original” game. Players try to link cities by building out rail lines. On the board, the cities have pictures associated with them. We found ourselves explaining the game to Faith based on the pictures and she was tasked with finding the path between things like the “whale” and the “bridge.” I can see how this may help her with U.S. geography if we keep it up!
An added benefit of starting/learning the game with this simpler version is that the “regular” version is easier to pick up because you already understand the basic premise.
This game is definitely a must if you and your family enjoy spending time together for game nights and there are little ones who want to join in!
