Today’s daddy-daughter day was a struggle for me. I was drawing a blank on what we could do together considering the COVID-19 closures. After breakfast, I tried to buy some time by taking the time to fill up the gas tank. We needed the gas, anyways.
Eventually we ended up in downtown San Bernardino outside the First Original McDonald’s Museum on the old, historic Route 66. The museum is located at 1398 N. E Street in San Bernardino, CA. As we drove up there was only one car in the parking lot and I wasn’t sure whether it was open or not. But it was, and we eagerly hopped out of the care to check out this piece of local history.
As we entered the museum we were greeted by a friendly… curator? I forget what his name was. There was no fee to enter and look around. They did take donations, though. The items in the museum have been donated from visitors from all over the world. People who came to donate their McDonald’s memorabilia would take a picture with their donation. This picture was then displayed with the items so the donors all became part of the museum as well.
The pieces were categorized by decade or by country of origin. It was interesting to the see the variations in products and design that McDonald’s has used in different parts of the world.
If you aren’t one that will spend time poring over the details of every single item, this museum may only take 30 minutes to take in. Or 5 minutes if you just want to breeze through it.
If you’re in the area, this is definitely a cool, quick stop to make.
